A guide to Northstar California traditions

Winter isn't just coming; winter has arrived. And we couldn't be any more thrilled, especially since winter's return is also the return of Northstar California’s whimsical, indulgent traditions. Discover a few of our favorite winter traditions below.

tōst. Taking place every day at 2 p.m. on the East Ridge (Blue) trail, tōst is not only one of Northstar’s best traditions, but best events. Arrive at least a few minutes early for your complimentary flute of bubbles to toast at 2 p.m. on the dot, while taking in the views of the surrounding mountains and nearby Lake Tahoe from atop Northstar. Luxurious, whimsical, and an ode to fun in the mountains, tōst invites guests to enjoy the authentic, unique experience at Northstar.

Platinum tōst. New to Northstar this season is Platinum tōst, an upgraded version of the already refined daily tradition of tōst. This is your chance to reserve the VIP area of tōst with private seating and fire pits, plus enjoy a charcuterie basket and upgraded bottle of champagne. Northstar will even bring the basket down the mountain for you, and offers other upgrades like a variety of premium champagne choices and craft beer options. Platinum seats are limited, so reserve yours today!

S’more Time. For some more après-ski time following tōst, look no further than the appropriately named S’more Time, happening daily at 3:30 p.m. in the Village at Northstar. Grab a seat around the ice-skating rink and fire pits, where “s’mores chefs” can be found delivering fresh, warm s’mores for everyone to enjoy. New this year are early morning appearances, dubbed “S’mornings," by the s’mores chefs at the Big Springs gondola and transit center.

Marshmology. Yes, marshmology. Gather around the outdoor fire pits at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe from 4:30-5 p.m. for a hands-on s’mores experience to learn about its history and ingredients. Additionally, enjoy creative house-made marshmallow creations from the Ritz’s resident Marshmologist. We’ll take one of everything!

Live Music Every Friday. What’s your music of choice? DJ? Jam band? Acoustic duos? Well you’ll find them all every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon in the Village at Northstar around the ice rink. Grab a Bloody Mary or hot toddy from the Cabana Bars and kick up around the fire pits while enjoying live music.

Mountain Table Dinner Series. Adventure dining never felt more luxurious thanks to the return of Northstar’s Mountain Table Dinner Series. This one-of-a-kind mountaintop culinary experience (on the evenings of January 13, February 3, February 24, and March 17) takes place nearly 8,000 feet up at Northstar’s Zephyr Lodge, featuring an entire menu of California-sourced ingredients masterfully paired with regional artisan wines, craft beers, and distilled spirits. Tickets sell out fast, so reserve your seat today!

The Tahoe Ascent Staff represents everyone from snowboard instructors to ski patrol to chefs and more. They are locals who know the 4-1-1 on North Lake Tahoe, but also experts in their own fields, providing unique, and often behind-the-scenes perspectives of both the area and their areas of expertise.
