Quick bites, drinks and shops in the Village at Northstar

Whether you're in need of a quick stop or even a little shopping trip for some goods, the Village at Northstar has exactly what you need. Grab a cup of Joe to wake up, a breakfast sandwich to start your day, the last of the ingredients you need for that recipe, and maybe even the finishing touches on that anniversary gift for that special someone back at the cabin. Whatever it is, you'll find a variety of specialty shops at the Village at Northstar that corner the market on the essentials -- and non-essentials -- for your stay.

But first, coffee. Grab a latte, and go ahead and splurge on a pastry too, at Starbucks, which should help start -- or continue -- your day. Of course, they've got other drinks, hot and cold, like tea and iced lattes, and a selection of goodies in their refrigerator case. The best thing? Naturally, that would be the whipped cream on top.

When the munchies hit or you simply need some condiments for the cabin, then you've got the recently opened Copper Lane Cafe and Provisions at your disposal. Top off your basket with a special bottle of wine from a local winery and even a couple bottles of craft beer from one of the local breweries. Breakfast, and what's more, brunch, can also be had here, thanks to a great breakfast sandwich (and breakfast burrito). Local sundries, produce, and dairy round out their marketplace selection, so you may find yourself spending a bit of time in the market and cafe. Bonus points that they stay open until 10 p.m.

Looking for a special artisanal, handmade and edible gift for that someone? Look no further than Dorinda's Chocolates, where you can get assorted boxes of sweet treats, including truffles, bars, barks, and seasonal chocolates. Even try samples before you buy so you can taste exactly what you're getting. They make a perfect gift, a sweet ending to your dinner, or just a great reason to indulge all by yourself. I'm not going to judge.

If you have a sweet tooth that needs soothing, go for one -- or all -- the Euro Sweets shoppe around the ice skating rink. Euro Crepe is a great breakfast and lunch stop, with savory and sweet fillings, alike, including their $10 breakfast special combining a crepe and a drink that is available until noon. Meanwhile, Euro Snack satisfies your hankering for sugar. Fill up a grab bag of your favorite candies and chocolates to take away, and get a scoop of single serving frozen yogurt for good measure. Continuing the European sweets and snacks tour is a Belgian waffle and French hot dog stand with a variety of snack offerings.

Finally, whether you're thirsty mid-day or ready for a hot toddy to cap off a day on the slopes, look no further than Cabana Bar, the most festive way to imbibe in the Village. It's prime apr├ęs-ski real estate, while one of the bars even has an overlook point with a great view of the center of the Village and ice skating rink. Featuring a full bar and custom cocktail menu, you'll have your choice of a variety of drinks to enjoy in the open-air cabanas and around the fire pits that circle the ice rink.

Meanwhile, coming this month is the newest addition to Northstar, Frites. Frites continues that European theme, featuring a specialty fry shop that will put your favorite mountain dish front and center. You'll have access to all the fries your heart desires, and a great selection of craft brews to wash it all down, right next to the skating rink. From bison chili fries to poutine with cheese curds and gravy, you'll wonder why you've never seen a fries shop in a ski town before. Get ready for Frites in February!
