The Weekend Drop: January 5 Edition

New year, new... climate? Ice Age 2017 seems to have arrived this week, and I, for one, couldn't be happier! Northstar California has had such an incredible week that I don't know where to begin. Well let's begin with the six feet of snow we've received since Sunday afternoon. Six feet!

You read right, Lake Tahoe is currently experiencing the tail-end of an epic winter storm that's dumped several feet of snow this week. Amidst road closures and weather warnings, true powder hounds have been rewarded with an average of 19 operating lifts and 70 open trails at Northstar California.

I've been out daily at every opportunity to explore this brand new snow-covered world and I have one word for you: Incredible! I love how a familiar place can suddenly become foreign after a major storm. Even though I've ridden Rendezvous Glade (Black) more times than I can count, I'm always surprised to find new ways to the bottom. There's nothing like gliding out of a tree run on a powder day to make you fall in love with the mountain all over again.

But that's not all. This week was especially exciting because of all the New Year's celebrations around Lake Tahoe. Northstar California rang in the new year last weekend with its annual Fire & Ice New Year's Eve celebration that included live music and a firework show. Needless to say, it's been an epic week.

Have you checked the weather lately? As this storm draws to a close, we're looking at a day of sunny reprieve before more snow is forecasted to arrive. Here's hoping for many more days like the last few.

What else do you have in store for us, 2017?
