The Weekend Drop: November 30 Edition

Winter ski season it no longer coming, but rather it has officially arrived. And it couldn’t be truer than of this weekend, which marks the official opening of Northstar California’s mountain for skiers and snowboarders, and we couldn’t be happier.

Northstar’s winter season actually kicked off last weekend, over the Thanksgiving holiday, with the opening of the Village, where adults were enjoying hot toddies at the Cabana Bars, kids were taking laps on the ice skating rink, and passholders were pub-crawling around the Village. Whistler Blackcomb was also officially welcomed into Vail’s Epic Pass family with the premiere of Magnetic, the first full-length, ski and snowboard movie filmed entirely within a single ski area. Thanksgiving weekend’s final moments even saw some fresh snowfall.

So with fresh snowfall to start the week, coupled with cold evening temperatures for snowmaking, tomorrow officially marks opening day at Northstar. Lifts will start turning at 8:30 a.m. for first chair, with last chair at 4 p.m.

This weekend will see several lifts running, including the Big Springs Gondola, Vista, Arrow, Comstock, and Rendezvous. Among the 20 trails that'll be open (most of which on Mt. Pluto): West and East Ridge, Upper and Lower Grouse Alley, Powder Bowl, The Chute, Dutchman, Luggis, Stump Alley, Lower Main Street, Luggis, Stump Alley, Lower Main Street. However, the status throughout the weekend will be dependent on weather and conditions.

While trail/lift status will be dependent on weather and conditions, you can follow Northstar on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (and @northstarmtn for more specific traffic, weather, and condition updates), or subscribe, to get up-to-date info every Friday morning. For terrain and lift status this weekend, and throughout the winter, visit Northstar’s grooming report.

Additionally, this weekend is chock-full of some of the biggest events of the winter. Kicking things off on Thursday is the annual Tahoe Film Fest, which begins Thursday evening with screenings in Incline Village, and screenings Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Village at Northstar.

Insider Tip: The Village's Tahoe Spa & Wellness has 50% off clothing.

Friday is also the inaugural night of one of Northstar’s premier holiday events, Noel Nights, followed by the tree lighting ceremony. Noel Nights takes place Friday evenings throughout December in the Village at Northstar, featuring activities for kids that include complimentary arts and crafts in the Villager Candle Shop, complimentary sleigh rides, photos with Santa, and more.
