After receiving a fresh blanket of snow Wednesday, Lake Tahoe has arguably become the happiest place on earth heading into the holiday weekend. At Northstar California, the mountain was covered by several inches of fresh snow, making for an absolutely stunning Wednesday morning, and creating good skiing and riding conditions. Meanwhile, the snow transformed the base of the mountain at the Village into a winter wonderland.
Needless to say, the holiday spirit is in full swing thanks to the snowy atmosphere at the top of the hill and the holiday events happening at the bottom of the hill.
At the top of the mountain, last week saw the opening of Lookout Mountain, which brought with it the debut of new terrain and easy access from Martis Camp. Schwarzstrasse (Blue), Washoe Side Door (Blue) and Washoe (Blue) were among the runs open. While access to Lookout Mountain via the Link is still closed, a shuttle is available from the Village. Or, you can throw your skis over your shoulder and take the 10-minute hike along the Link path to access Lookout from Northstar’s front side. Keep in mind, however, that with new snow, conditions are always subject to change. You can monitor terrain and lift status here.
Aside from all the fun happening on the mountain, the Village will see the height of its winter activities this weekend. Friday will be the year's final installment of Noel Nights, complete with pictures with Santa, sleigh rides, and s’mores by the fire. Additionally, there will be a special ice skating performance, starting at 6 p.m., when the Sacramento Skating Company takes to the ice.
And the holiday activities continue throughout the weekend. While most kids may be anticipating Santa coming down the chimney in a few days, children will have a chance to have breakfast with the big man on Sunday morning at TC's Pub in the Village. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Sunday morning, and will include photos with Santa, cookie decorating, and breakfast. Reserve tickets are available here.
