The Weekend Drop: February 16 Edition

What a beautiful week at Northstar California, where the weather brought 37 inches of fresh snow to the summit. That brings our February total to 90 inches! With another long storm in the immediate forecast, February is giving January a run for its money.

This week has been full of exciting activities both on and off the slopes. For starters, Northstar's newest cuisine venue, Frites, opened in the Village on Sunday. The European-inspired snack shop offers a range of gourmet French fry dishes from delicious short rib fries to classic Canadian poutine. Meanwhile, on Sunday, tōst hosted its annual "Ski, tōst, and be married" event, with couples proclaiming their love and renewing their vows. Following the ceremonies, there were fun photo props and plenty of champagne.

Additionally, this week saw the first episode of "Chairlift Chats," airing on Tuesday on Facebook. I spent Monday and Tuesday riding Arrow Express, Comstock Express, and Vista Express asking people questions about love. Check out the episode below.

Have you seen Pipeline recently? The terrain parks team has been working hard throughout the week to create an impressive setup, with a minipipe and a quarterpipe joining the already impressive superpipe. These new terrain park features are constructed side-by-side, ending with the rather large quarterpipe at the bottom of the run. Whether you feel like testing your skills in the pipes or not, watching other riders always makes a great show.

As of this morning, snow has started falling again on the mountain. According to the National Weather Service, we can expect snow on and off today and through late next week. Unlike the last few big storms, this one is set to be spread out with consistent snow throughout the next seven days. This should give our snow clearing teams, as well as Cal Trans, a steady week of work clearing local roadways and walkways.

Nonetheless, always be prepared for changing weather conditions and mountain operations. Our teams always aim to open as much terrain as possible but sometimes nature has other plans. Follow @NorthstarMTN for the most up-to-date information regarding weather conditions and mountain operations.
