Every day Northstar's slopes are ripe with fun, but there’s a daily two o’clock tradition (weather permitting), tōst, which is good reason to take a refreshing breather from all the action -- a little bubbly with your friends. It's then when everybody (21+) who has arrived in time, is treated to a complimentary glass of Champagne for the 2 o’clock toast. After which, you can continue the party with additional half-bottles and bottles of bubbly, available for purchase, before getting in your last runs of the day or cruising down to the Village at Northstar for après-ski. Tōst is undeniably one of Northstar California's foremost traditions, and one of the coolest après-ski experiences around Lake Tahoe. Not to mention that the view, located off Northstar's East Ridge Trail (Blue), is one of the best ski views around the lake.
You and your skiing and snowboarding friends will want to allow yourself enough time beforehand to head on over to the little pass off East Ridge. Cruising down East Ridge, take in the beautiful Lake Tahoe views before looking out for the indicated tōst posts off to skier's right on the cat track. You’ll see ski racks and a little warming hut, along with some yellow bean bags to rest on and fire pits to relax next to.
A few minutes before two o’clock, you’ll be treated to a complimentary glass of Champagne from Schramsberg Vineyards, which was also the official Champagne of the White House during the Obama administration. Listen for the afternoon “tōst,” then clink the glasses of friends and strangers when the bell strikes.
However, you’ll want to consider stepping things up with an upgrade to Platinum tōst. Here, you’ll be privy to a special VIP area, where you’ll get to enjoy a plentiful charcuterie and cheese board along with a Champagne upgrade, the good stuff, a full bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut. Enjoy your picnic basket fully equipped with silverware, proper place settings, and a blanket.
But that's not all! With Platinum tōst, dessert is also furnished with Northstar's famous s’mores kits, featuring Hershey’s chocolate, graham crackers, artisan marshmallows, and long skewers to roast them with over your personal fire pit. Among these additional perks, you can come well ahead of the official 2 p.m. tōst so you can enjoy the goods during lunchtime. However, you'll need to reserve ahead of time, which you can do by purchasing tickets at $85 per person. If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, also a great option for those with kids, you can do that as well with a bottle of Martinelli’s apple cider at $55 per person. A ski-up Champagne bar above Lake Tahoe atop rolling ski runs? Now that's not your everyday après-ski sesh.
