It has certainly been an interesting week for weather at Northstar California! So far we've seen a snow storm, a crazy amount of wind, sunshine, and plain old rain. What's next Mother Nature? According to the National Weather Service, we're in for a relatively normal weekend with clear skies and cool temperatures.
Last weekend started out with new snow on Friday, delivering more than two feet of that beautiful white stuff through Sunday. I ventured up to the Summit on Saturday morning for first tracks and was rewarded with several especially excellent powder runs on Upper Grouse Alley (black) and The Plunge (black). The snow-covered trees and valley looked so beautiful from the vantage point below Comstock Express. Of course, nothing compares to the epic view of Lake Tahoe from East Ridge (blue) after a snow storm.
The sun decided to make an appearance on Sunday, making it a perfect morning for park laps on Moonshine and Pinball. With more than two hundred features, all eight terrain parks were looking great!
As we move into the weekend, wet conditions are expected to transition into snow overnight with up to eleven inches of possible accumulation. The temperature will hold between the high twenties and low thirties through Saturday night, creating ideal surface conditions.
Insider Tip: Escape to Lookout Mountain and The Backside on weekends to discover the best untouched terrain!
If this awesome season has taught us anything, it's to expect the unexpected. Always be prepared for changing weather conditions and mountain operations. The mountain operations teams at Northstar always aim to open as much terrain as possible but sometimes nature has other plans.
