The secret to a great girls getaway revealed

You know when you find a good thing? Like a really good thing. And you simultaneously want to brag about it to everyone but also not tell a single soul for fear of its discovery. Yeah, well that’s how I felt writing this post about a recent experience at Northstar California. I hesitated. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. If I even could. But here I am; hands hovering over the keyboard, and even as I bite my lip in question, I’m already spilling the beans. Because you guys, it's good.

A few weeks ago, I dragged my girls to the bright shores of Lake Tahoe for a mid-week, winter retreat at Northstar California. We needed a getaway and I couldn’t think of a better place. With varying riding levels, we wanted somewhere we could all enjoy and that would be super fun no matter what the snow conditions. We also knew driving up on Tuesday evening and having Wednesday to play would mean no extra waits in mountain traffic or lift lines. Who has time for that anyways?

We rose early on Wednesday morning, slipping into a mellow yoga session with Tahoe Yoga & Wellness Center in The Village before lifts opened. The night before, the snow angels had kissed the resort and everything was bright and fresh; about a foot of powder sparkled, waiting for us to dip our toes in. Taking time to breathe deep and open the body before tackling a foot of freshies under blue skies with my best girls is my bliss. Can I just go back?

The full reality of the day, however, didn’t strike until our giggles were suspended and quiet reigned as we geared up and loaded into the gondola, headed for the top of the mountain. Floating above the terrain and eyeing our lines that we were going to nab on our way down, we held our breath. It was this good.

We spent the morning floating through trees, our grins splitting our faces. When our legs didn’t want to support us anymore, we took a pit stop for champagne, charcuterie and s’mores around a campfire at Northstar’s ski-up champagne bar, tost. Campfires and champagne on top of the mountain, just off a run with incredible views? Only in California.

A few more runs, before we called it and headed to Tavern 6330' for après to warm up and relive our morning ventures. A chill atmosphere and good burgers. Done and done.

So there you go. It’s good. So good. And by the end of the day it totally made that glare from the boss and sideways glances from coworkers totally worth it. Mid-week escape to Northstar… whose coming with?

Xx
