The best boutique shops in Truckee

For people who've spent time in Truckee, California, it's no secret that the historic town is full of charm. However, much of its charm can be attributed to the variety and selection of boutique shops in downtown Truckee. Whether you’re looking for jewelry, clothing, home accessories, or any other unique keepsakes, Truckee has a great collection of independently owned retailers ready for your perusing. It’s also a great way to get to know the town for window shoppers and treasure hunters, alike.

Tahoe University

At this two-story, family-run boutique, their motto is that there are “no bad days” in their beloved Truckee, Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. Purveyors of women’s and kid’s apparel, gifts and high-end home goods, Tahoe University is a women-owned shop which prides itself on finding only the best and unique designers and brands, and bringing them to the community. Additionally, there’s complimentary Wi-Fi, so you’ll find a piece of that community right on their patio. Got kids? There’s also a play area for them inside the store. The Niche

Find your place in The Niche, a shopping boutique filled with women’s apparel, gifts and home furnishings. They carry both current and timeless apparel from well known brands and private labels at affordable prices. The result is a great collection of designs perfect for every shopper to customize her own look without breaking the bank. However, be forewarned: It’s hard to walk out of this store without something in hand!


Bespoke is a high-end boutique owned and run by local couple Heather River and Brian Hess. The store carries incredibly unique hand-crafted gift items, including men’s, women’s and kid’s apparel, leather goods, bath products, stationery, jewelry and more from independent artisans. Truckee Variety Co.

Perfect for those who are young and young at heart, Truckee Variety Co. is the place to find old school toys and games, souvenirs, art supplies and candy. The colorful store is stocked to the gills with items that might just keep you in there for hours, from humorous socks to gag gifts. It’s also a great place to get those Truckee keepsakes you’ve been looking for, such as magnets and postcards.

Lorien Powers Studio Jewelry

You’ll not only find Lorien’s unique, hand-crafted and wearable designs at her Truckee boutique shop, but also those of other local artisans that she admires. The result is a beautifully contemporary collection of jewelry, accessories, gifts and apparel that captures the essence of Lake Tahoe. The variety of textures, materials and techniques on display throughout the store are available at reasonable price points, as well. Kalifornia Jean Bar

Two of six locations of Kalifornia Jean Bar are located in Truckee, in the Village at Northstar and in downtown Truckee. It’s in these stores where you’ll find premium brands of denim, with the majority of the products proudly made in America. In addition to jeans, Kalifornia Jean Bar has women's apparel including tops and shoes to go along with your jeans. They'll even alter your jeans for free with a purchase from the store, further enhancing their customer service model.
