Are you trying to plan your next girls' golf getaway? While there may be some obvious answers, choosing where to go for your next girls' golf weekend is like picking out an ice cream flavor. Although you may often stick with your favorite or a household name, there are simply too many good golf courses and resorts to choose from.
However, one you may not be too familiar with, unless you're a local, is Northstar California in Truckee, California. Situated amidst the Sierra Nevada mountains, just north of Lake Tahoe, Northstar is most known for its skiing. But what many people may not know is that they have a picturesque golf course set among the rolling hills. Northstar's golf course is the perfect place to bring your favorite female foursome, boasting a course that is beginner-friendly, beautiful and gives you bang for your buck, starting at $55 for a round of 18.
With four different tees, including two combination options, Northstar has yardages for every skill level. The front nine is largely wide open, with 360-degree mountain views, at the base of Northstar's ski runs. On my trip there a couple weeks ago, there was even snow still on the top of the mountain. What a beautiful sight to see during the summer!
Northstar's back nine is in the trees, making for a blend of beautiful mountain golf and tricky tee shots. Don't be intimidated, however. The back nine is forgiving as long as you generally hit the ball straight. Northstar's entire course is fun and challenging, with holes 14 and 15 being the two hardest on the course.
Summer as it is, and with a wildlife area adjacent to Northstar's course, it's not unusual to see wildlife around the course. We even saw a brown bear when we played! It was the first brown bear I've seen in person, except for ones I've seen at the zoo, which definitely don't count. Anxious as we were, the bear wasn't phased one bit, meandering down the river without a care.
After a round of golf, you can enjoy the above par Village at Northstar, which encompasses restaurants, boutiques, a movie theater and skating rink. I enjoyed breakfast from one of the Village's latest additions, Copper Lane Cafe & Provisions, which is part market and part cafe.
In addition to golf, Northstar California has plenty of other activities happening during the summer, like bike trails (which are their ski runs in the winter), lift-access hiking, concerts and more. Furthermore, get your sweat and wellness on with a yoga studio and fitness center in the Village. Afterward, relax like the queens that you and your girls are in Northstar's spa.
With downtown Truckee down the street and Lake Tahoe around the corner, Northstar makes for a great location for your next golf adventure with the girls. It's the perfect place for all of your vacation needs, especially for those exploring souls wanting to cross another cool place off their bucket list.
